> Atmosphere describes the feelings we get that are evoked by color, texture, and typography. You might already think of atmosphere in different terms. You might call it “feel”, “mood” or even “visual identity.” Whatever words you choose, the atmosphere of a design doesn’t depend on layout. It’s independent of arrangement and visual placement. It will be seen, or felt, at every screen size and on every device. (Andy Clarke)
A design atmosphere is the concept of establishing a playground that facilitates communication about an application without needing to generate full mockups for every page on an application. The web is rapidly growing, adding new viewports and environments, making the task of creating mockups for every page untenable. The designer Samantha Warren developed design artifacts called style tiles, that in one-page showcase color, type, and texture explorations. Designer Dan Mall incorporated Samantha's idea developing element collages, demonstrating design atmosphere explorations with a collage of elements for the interface.
By breaking down visual explorations using [[Component-based Development]] designers save time and effort by facilitating conversations with [[Stakeholders]] on the overall design direction instead of showing premature layouts.
